Red Roof Bungalow by Ann McCann (c) 2015
I was commissioned by a local neighborhood to paint this as a gift for the owner. I surreptitiously took photos early one Saturday morning and then painted it in the studio. Her bungalow has this beautiful red roof and all the little details you find in such an old house. I hope she likes it!
Marsh Road II by Ann McCann (c) 2015
This scene is on a salt marsh in Cape Cod. I painted a small version of this in the last 30 Day painting challenge (see below). I also posted the photo I worked from below.
It is an interesting process to move from a small painting sketch (8 X 8) to a large studio painting (20 X 20"). It gave me the chance to use my large palette knives and large strokes. This is still not finished but getting close. I plan to exhibit this is my show next February.

I am almost done with this flower. I still have some painting to do on the sides and the "style" shadow is still too "kicky" in color. I will gray it down some more. The paint is thick, so it is taking a while to dry, but I am close now.

I decided to do a pink companion piece to the large orange hibiscus. If you put the two paintings together, they would face each other. Again, I haven't finished this yet or painted the stamen/pistal on it. These are both gallery wrap canvases that will be painted on the sides too and won't require framing.

I had so much fun creating my various small hibiscus paintings, I decided to go for some large ones. Here is the beginning of my orange hibiscus painting. I achieved a lot of depth in the center where the long pistal/stamen will go. I also like the zip of the complement colors in the background, blues and purples. Stay tuned for the final painting. Below is the photo I am working from.

Exploring Orange by Ann McCann (c) 2015
I've been enjoying working with orange and decided to make a painting about orange. So, there are all different oranges here, dark and light, opaque and transparent. And then there is the kick with the complement colors. This orange hibiscus is a bright beacon floating in a sea of dark blue-purple.

My hairdresser saved me again by bringing in his flowers from home. I grabbed my phone and took some photos. I especially loved painting the glowing orange hibiscus.

I really liked making the smaller hydrangea painting so I decided to make a larger one. Love those blues!

Continuing with my beach and dune theme, here is a view towards Provincetown in Wellfleet, MA. I wanted to show how bright and deep the blue ocean was against the light sand. The dunes there are spectacular! Two or three of these beach paintings would look great together on your wall.

I decided to continue with my beach and sand theme. I am really enjoying painting these small 5X7 oils. It is very freeing to knife these quick paintings. This is another dune-beach scene from Great Island in Wellfleet, MA.
