I am just about done with this painting, maybe some minor changes yet. I plan to submit this for a peer-reviewed fall show with the theme of "hidden" things. My "hidden" would be the end of the path.
"Vivian's Cape Cod Garden" by Ann McCann 16 X 20 X 1.5" Oil
I took a plein air art class in Cape Cod a few summers ago and painted Vivian's (teacher) flowerbed with pastels (chalk). She had us do an exercise where we randomly made strokes on paper for 30 minutes. It was a really good loosening up exercise. The painting process then flowed more effortlessly. This second time, I painted the scene with oils for permanence but kept the brilliance of pastel colors with lots of bright, transparent oils. It is painted on the sides too so does not require framing.
"Blackcreek Marsh" by Ann McCann 5.5 X 5.5" Watercolor
This is a wonderful marsh with a bright blue creek running through it that can only be photographed standing on top of a fence on a highway with many cars rushing by. Quite a challenge! I try to paint it every year when we visit Cape Cod. You are looking out towards Cape Cod Harbor here.
"Tuscan Town (Pienza)" by Ann McCann 11 X 14 Oil
When we stayed in Tuscany, this was our view of Pienza from the villa. Can you imagine how wonderful it would be to have this view of a golden medieval town every morning while you drink your coffee! I can't imagine ever getting tired of it.
Porch View in Terlingua by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Oil Plein Air
This is a plein air painting I did over the Christmas break while visiting Big Bend Park. We stayed in a house on a mountainside in Terlingua, Texas. The views from the porch were spectacular. We saw many road runners and javelinas in this desert landscape. Only in Texas!.
Holy City by Ann McCann 8 X 8 Oil
I painted this for the Biblical Art Museum's 8X8 Exhibition & Auction. I took the photo for the painting at St Andrews Scottish Church across the valley from the Old City in Jerusalem. It was a beautiful sunset! The event is this Wednesday, November 16, 2016 from 7-10 pm.

Paris in the Spring (Eiffel Tower) by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Oil
I painted this several years ago on a painting trip to France. Although the weather was cool in May, all the trees were blooming. I think the purple one is a jacaranda and the pink is a horse chestnut. What a lovely frame for the Eiffel Tower which is breathtaking itself. Great Day!
Sunset Race by Ann McCann 11 X 14 Oil
The sail boats are racing on White Rock Lake in Dallas at sunset when the wind picks up. This was a plein air painting that I finished in my studio.
Sky at Horsebarn Hill with Cattle by Ann McCann 6 X 12 Oil
In August we visit my Mother-in-law in Storrs, CT. Nearby is Horsebarn Hill on the University of Connecticut campus. The clouds were gorgeous the day we visited and were the perfect backdrop for the distant mountains and the cattle roaming the pasture.
"Colonial Sunflowers" by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Oil
Every August we have a large family get-together in Cape Cod, MA. This is a typical scene in Wellfleet where we stay, beautiful colonial houses and lovely flowers. These are sunflowers in the New England style (not Texan, smaller).
Aspen Shadows on Snow by Ann McCann 20 X 20 Oil
It is still 100 degrees here in Texas so I decided to feature another snow painting. I loved working with all the beautiful blues and purples on the "white" snow. Actually the snow is yellow, pink, orange, blue, purple........................... This one hangs in my breakfast room!
Snowy Afternoon in the Woods by Ann McCann 16 X 20" Oil
It's 100+ degrees in Texas right now and walking along this snowy path looks pretty good. I created an "aurora borealis" look to the interior of the forest, moving mysterious colors. The paint is nice and thick. This is for sale on my website, as well as a smaller version that I painted first.
"Quince in the Hood" by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Oil
Flaming red-orange quince bushes are the very earliest sign of spring in Dallas. There are not very many of them, probably too old fashioned. I am lucky to have a beautiful one on my street, in front of a lovely arts and crafts house.
