Old olive trees are twisty, crenulated and quite lovely. They are revered in Israel and cannot ever be cut down. This grove of olives filtered the bright sunlight, creating undulating shadows on the walkway.
Rose of Sharon in Celebration of my New Grandson!
Rose of Sharon seems to flourish everywhere, here in Jerusalem and at home in Texas and Connecticut. May my new grandson also flourish! Born July 1, 2025.

The bright petunia flowers on the mellow Jerusalem stone were very eye catching. See the below photo.
"Holy Hollyhocks" by Ann McCann Watercolor Sketch
Hollyhocks are another colorful flower here in Jerusalem. This may become a larger painting when I have time outside of bomb shelters!
"Pink Flower Wall" by Ann McCann Watercolor Sketch
A shocking pink cascade of bougainvillea in an old Jerusalem stone alley. There are spots of color like this everywhere.
"Meditation During the War" Watercolor Sketch by Ann McCann
I’m spending a lot of time in bomb shelters here in Israel or worrying about where they are. However, I’ve captured a quiet moment here in our local park. Love the cascading blue plumbago flowers.
"Starry Night in Jerusalem" Watercolor Sketch by Ann McCann
Walking down a lit alley at night, this scene reminded me of Van Gogh’s Starry Night painting. I’m thinking of doing a painting of this myself.

Spring starts in Israel with the pink and white blossoms of the wild almond trees. They are scattered all over the hillsides and mountains. They are a welcome sight after a wet. cold winter! There are also almond orchards with symmetrical row upon row of pink, like an abstract Mondrian painting.
On the Easel "Iris Gold on the Pond" by Ann McCann 18 X 24" Oil
This pond is behind the Valley House Gallery in Dallas. I was there to view the current art exhibition, took a quick turn around the property and got excited about this scene. Doesn’t get any better!

Watercolor Sketches from a Painting Trip to Ennis, TX
I travelled with a group of sketchers to Ennis TX this week to paint the bluebonnets. One in the group owns a house on top of a hill in Ennis. The sun shone, but the wind was pretty ferocious. Nevertheless, we sketched for two hours. The below sketch of the new gate took over an hour due to the architecture of it. The one above I did in 5 minutes just before we left. I think I like it the best!
