I decided to do a larger amaryllis painting. It is not done yet. I am stuck at home in a Dallas cold/snow storm called Dallaska 24. It is 12 degrees outside with snow!

I worked on this painting some more, adding darker values. Now the male finch really stands out. The small touches of gold in the underpainting also pop! The story here is this pair of finches came to our feeder this summer every day while we were on vacation. He was always eating and she was always waiting!

This colorful glass jar from our mother’s and grandmother’s eras is very nostalgic. Those ladies used to can the fruits and vegetables they grew to eat over the winter. This painting features the male goldfinch that visited our birdfeeder every day at the Cape. His paler mate always waited patiently while he ate voraciously. Gold calligraphic strokes add some whimsy throughout the scene.
