"Ptown Beach Roses" by Ann McCann 16 x 20" Oil
Continuing with my beach rose series, here is a scene from the harbor in Provincetown. The roses spill across the sand with a view of the dock and moored boats. The sky is lively with clouds and various blue hues.
"Daylily Cottage" by Ann McCann 9 X 12" Watercolor
Before the daylilies bloomed, this little Cape Cod cottage just blended into the surrounding greenery. Then the flowers bloomed and WOW! The orange and yellow daylilies sparkled. I posted a much smaller sketch of this a while ago.
"Red Hots" at the Lovers Lane Methodist Church 9200 Inwood Rd, Dallas
This watercolor along with three others will be on display at the church until November 16. The Reception is Sunday, October 15 from noon to 2:00 pm. This is open to the public!
"She is Always Waiting" by Ann McCann 12 X 24" Oil
This pair of goldfinches visited our bird feeder daily on the Cape this summer. He was usually eating and she was waiting (on top). They were always together. They are so lovely and bright in the garden. The underpainting is gold so that shows thru, especially where I added some calligraphic lines (see lilies).
Ann McCann at the Southwest Watercolor Society 2023 Show at the Central Dallas Library
There are 80 watercolors for sale at the main Dallas Library. One of them is mine!! There is FREE parking in their underground parking structure on Wood St. The show is open thru September 29. The gallery is a great space on the 4th floor.

I painted a bunch of these small paintings for a show and these are the only two left. I painted them with a knife so they have a lot of texture. They would look very nice together on a wall!

"Gold Finch on Thistle" by Ann McCann 8 X 10" Oil
We love gold finches and spent a lot of our vacation watching them feed in the backyard of our rental house in Wellfleet. I’m experimenting with oil on a gold panel and some calligraphy again. Note the gold underpainting here and there.
"Butterfly Whimsey" by Ann McCann 8 X 8" Oil
I decided to do something a little different on a very long, very hot Saturday (105 degrees). So, I painted this with a brush and a calligraphy tool. The gold showing thru is a gilded underpainting!

"My Nephew's House Portrait" by Ann McCann 8 X 16" Ink & Watercolor
I enjoy painting house portraits, but they are an act of love. They need much detail for the home owner even though I would rather do loose and flowy. I try to combine the two, putting the looseness in the background, the plants and trees. These make nice gifts for new home owners. I also paint them for realtors who gift them to house sellers.
