This is a plein air painting I did last week while standing in a field of sunflowers in Ennis, Texas. What a treat! They really do look happy, standing upright and soaking up the sun. Did you know they turn towards the sun throughout the day? You have to catch them at the right time or you will be facing their backs.

I am close to the end of my participation in Dreama Perry’s course Once Upon a Time in Provence. This painting features a French market with turquoise trimmed buildings, bright umbrellas and flowers everywhere. I wish I was there.

Here is another still life I created in Dreama’s “Once Upon a Time in Provence” course. I liked painting all of it, especially the sunflowers. I am amazed how simply the basket was created with just a few strokes.

I am still in the Provence painting course by Dreama. Here is another painting I have completed. I wish I was really there, but taking the course with Dreama is the next best thing. Its the safest way “to fly” these days!
"Not So Chaste Blossoms" by Ann McCann 12 X 12" Oil
My chaste tree is blossoming, so I painted this plein air from my porch. Great experience except for the heat and the mosquitoes!
"Pink Soul" by Ann McCann 8 X 8" Oil
I am using some new techniques, including painting with only a brush. What better subject than the pink coneflowers in my front yard. I wanted them to convey light and flight with lots of color.
Ann McCann Goes to Provence Virtually
I am taking an online painting course by Dreama Tolle Perry called “Once Upon a Time in Provence.” She has wonderful painting videos as well as videos of various places in Provence, recipes, music, french words, etc. So everyday I spend a little time in Provence where the lavender and roses are blooming and the wine is flowing. Here are some of the paintings I have created in the course. What a great way to escape the pandemic and these troubled times!

SOLD "Santa Fe Sunset" by Ann McCann 20 X 20" Oil
This is another painting that I sold at my spring 2020 show. It captures a scene from our trip to Santa Fe last Thanksgiving after a big snowfall. Our friends are hanging it at their new condominium in Santa Fe!
SOLD "Skye Inn" by Ann McCann 9 X 12" Oil
I had my painting show in early March just before COVID 19 shut down the country. This is one of the paintings that sold at the show. It features an inn on the Isle of Skye that I painted on our trip to Scotland last August. It had such lovely flower boxes.
