Since I am on a bluebonnet kick, I thought I would feature a painting from several years ago. I painted most of this plein air, standing above this wonderful landscape. Then, I did some finish work in my studio when I got home. This is an area close to Fredericksburg , Texas. I hear the wildflowers are beautiful this year too.
"Orange & Blue Fireworks" by Ann McCann 16 X 20 Oil
After my visit to the bluebonnet fields in Ennis, Texas, I have been somewhat obsessed with painting the wildflowers. This is my largest one so far. The complementary colors sparkle and remind me of firework displays.
"Texas Spring" by Ann McCann 9 X 12" Oil
Here is what springtime in the Texas countryside looks like, bluebonnets, paintbrush and evening primrose. It is quite glorious right now. Busloads of people from around the world come to view them.
"Bluebonnets & Paintbrushes" by Ann McCann 8 X 8" Oil
It’s bluebonnet time again in Texas. I painted these after a trip to Ennis last week where the fields are blooming and smelling wonderful. People keep asking me for small paintings so here you are.
"Notre Dame Rose Window" by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Oil
I painted this view of the Rose Window while sitting right across from the cathedral along the Seine River. We had tramped all over the roof gazing over the city and admiring all the scary, delightful gargoyles. I think the window remains though I am not sure about the glass itself. It is just all so sad.
SOLD "Chamisa Shadows" by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Oil
This was a scene from a city park in Santa Fe where we spent the December holidays in 2017. I was fascinated by the mounds of dried chamisa everywhere. The yellow of the chamisa and the purple shadows create a lot of visual vibration.
SOLD "Southwest Gold" by Ann McCann 16 X 20 Oil
This painting sold at my current show at the Baylor Health Sciences Library. Thanks to Susan Neumann for permission to use her photo. The show will be up until July 14. Please visit if you can!
"Book Club Tulips" by Ann McCann 11 X 14" Oil
A vase of yellow tulips was featured at my book club meeting last week, so I decided to paint them. I added some hyacinths from home. It was one of those paintings that happened easily and was a joy to produce.
"Cherries Are Back!" by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Oil
We visited the Dallas Arboretum two weeks ago and the cherry trees were in bloom. They only bloom well for about a week so it was a real treat to see them. The place was packed with visitors. With this painting, you could enjoy them all year on your wall.

I am working on ideas for paintings that are “outside the box” for an art exhibit. Here I used the image of my opening flowers (Monday’s blog) but mixed it up with drips and other strokes. Here is the result.
