There are some paintings that are hard to finish and this is one of them. I have made some more changes to the river banks and shadows. This was originally painted plein air outside of Taos on the Rio Grand.

Ann McCann at Dutch Art Gallery Self-Portrait Show on September 6
On the left is the photo I shot from my computer camera. We had to remove all the extraneous things in the background which is why my hair looks squared off. On the right is the portrait I painted. I chose to add a lot of color to the painting and enlarge my eyes a bit. I was going to make them smaller but decided I liked them better big!

Ann McCann Featured at Self-Portrait Show on September 6, 2018
I will have a self-portrait at this show as well as four other new paintings. I look forward to seeing you there!
"Sherbet Hibiscus" by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Oil
I saw this apricot hibiscus duo in Cape Cod last year. They made me think of eating orange sherbet or a creamsicle. It was a hot day! This painting is for sale at the Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas.
"Hydrangea Interior" by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Oil
Here is the oil painting I did of the Cape Cod hydrangeas. The light is gorgeous there, probably because it is bouncing off the ocean. Here you see the light coming in the window and reflecting off the granite countertop and glass vase.
"Hydrangea Sketch" by Ann McCann Water Water Color & Ink
Continuing my Cad Cod theme, a bouquet of hydrangeas always awaits us when we rent a house in Wellfleet every summer. It is a wonderful "welcome." I just had to do a sketch of it.
"Hydrangea House" by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Oil
Cape Cod is one of my favorite places to be. This lovely house is down the street from where we have often stayed in Wellfleet. Besides being a lovely, mid-19th century house, it is surrounded by all these hydrangeas in various shades of blue. I wish I owned it!
"Twilight on the Rio Chama" by Ann McCann 20 X 24" Oil
We went on a painting trip to Abiquiu, NM a few years ago and stayed in the lovely Abiquiu Inn. They had multiple hummingbird feeders on the front porch and they were filled with hummers all day long. You could hear their wings beating! This was a view of the Chama river from the highway on the way to Ghost Ranch where Georgia O'Keeffe lived for many years. This painting has a nice warm glow as the panel was toned in orange before I painted the scene.
Ann McCann at Self Portrait Show, Dutch Art Gallery, September 6 from 6-8
In addition to my self-portrait, I will have four additional paintings at this show in September. "Biblical Poppies" is one of them. Please come to this opening and see the paintings! There is going to be a "people's choice" award for the self-portraits.
"Taos Gorge" by Ann McCann 12 x 16 Oil
They call New Mexico the polka dot land. That's what all the scraggly juniper trees look like dotted across the mountains. This painting was started about 10 years ago when we visited Taos and spent a day painting on the Rio Grand. The tamarisk trees were blooming along the river and butterflies were everyone. What a gorgeous spot. I never finished the painting until this weekend.
