Biblical Poppies 72 7.jpg

"Biblical Poppies" by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Oil

May 14, 2018

This is the field of red poppies that we visited in Israel.  It was just before dusk, and the golden light was beautiful.  I did a watercolor there and completed the oil painting in my studio.  As I mentioned before, this overlooks Ellah Valley where David is said to have killed Goliath.

My Palette by Ann McCann

May 09, 2018

I thought I would take a photo of my palette.  I have been using it for several paintings so there are lots of colors.  There is an organization to this as I always set my colors out in a particular order- yellow, orange, red, purple, blue and greens. Working on my yellow roses now.

Cape Roses 72 7.jpg

"Cape Cod Roses" by Ann McCann 18 X 24 Oil

May 02, 2018

I think this might be my favorite painting ever.  Roses, sunshine, lovely old homes and sea breezes-  what else could you ask for? This painting is now on display at the Southwestern Medical School but is available for purchase.

People keep telling me that yellow roses are their favorite, so I decided to paint the ones on the front of my house. So here is your favorite!

SOLD "Diva Poppies" by Ann McCann 8 X 8 Oil

April 26, 2018

I was in the mood for a lot of color on Sunday when I painted this. I got a lot of positive feedback yesterday when I posted it, and I sold it.   Now, it just has to dry!

I decided to go for drama with these poppies, with a big contrast between light and dark. This is a small painting.  it would be fun to paint a really large one.  It would make quite a statement on white walls!

"Amethyst Iris" by Ann McCann 20 X 20" Oil

April 23, 2018

It's iris time again in Dallas.  This is an iris patch in my neighborhood that I paint every spring. I went bigger this time, 20 X 20 inches. The iris sparkle in different colors in the sun- blue violet, red violet and various pinks.  The leaves are bright green in the sun but go to blues in the shade.

Spring II- Red tulips, daffodils and pansies.jpg

These two are going to a very dear friend, and I am delighted that she will own them.  I painted these for my birthday in 2017.  I visited the Dallas Arboretum in February and everything was blooming.  I did some watercolor sketches on site and then made oil paintings in my studio.  When I went to the Arboretum on my birthday this year (2018), nothing was blooming but the winter pansies!  Maybe February 2018 will be better..........

Magic Garden- Lady Banks 72 7.jpg

"Lady Banks in the Magic Garden" by Ann McCann 20 X 20 Oil

April 16, 2018

This is a scene that I revisit yearly, a Lady Banks rose growing on my pecan tree.  I did a lot of the painting a year ago but couldn't seem to finish.  When it bloomed this year, I figured out how to complete it. I'm planning on entering it in the Dutch Art Gallery spring show.  Wish me luck on getting in.

My yellow Lady Banks rose is blooming.  I trained it up the pecan tree in the backyard.  Last year's blooms were not very special, but this season looks like it will really be showy.  Time to paint it again!

"Gathering Gloom" by Ann McCann 16 X 20 Oil

March 19, 2018

I am working on creating a painting of the houses on my street in the early evening when the light is fading.  There is a lot of architecture in this scene and there is more work to be done.  There is also more color in the lawn than you see here, purples, etc..  But, I think I am close. These are lovely old homes.
