I was in the mood for a lot of color on Sunday when I painted this. I got a lot of positive feedback yesterday when I posted it, and I sold it. Now, it just has to dry!
"Diva Poppies" by Ann McCann 8 X 8 Oil
I decided to go for drama with these poppies, with a big contrast between light and dark. This is a small painting. it would be fun to paint a really large one. It would make quite a statement on white walls!
"Amethyst Iris" 20 X 20 Oil (c)Ann McCann 2018
"Amethyst Iris" by Ann McCann 20 X 20" Oil
It's iris time again in Dallas. This is an iris patch in my neighborhood that I paint every spring. I went bigger this time, 20 X 20 inches. The iris sparkle in different colors in the sun- blue violet, red violet and various pinks. The leaves are bright green in the sun but go to blues in the shade.
SOLD- Spring I & II by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Oils
These two are going to a very dear friend, and I am delighted that she will own them. I painted these for my birthday in 2017. I visited the Dallas Arboretum in February and everything was blooming. I did some watercolor sketches on site and then made oil paintings in my studio. When I went to the Arboretum on my birthday this year (2018), nothing was blooming but the winter pansies! Maybe February 2018 will be better..........
"Lady Banks in the Magic Garden" by Ann McCann 20 X 20 Oil
This is a scene that I revisit yearly, a Lady Banks rose growing on my pecan tree. I did a lot of the painting a year ago but couldn't seem to finish. When it bloomed this year, I figured out how to complete it. I'm planning on entering it in the Dutch Art Gallery spring show. Wish me luck on getting in.

"Lady Banks Blooming" by Ann McCann 16 X 20" Oil
My yellow Lady Banks rose is blooming. I trained it up the pecan tree in the backyard. Last year's blooms were not very special, but this season looks like it will really be showy. Time to paint it again!
"Gathering Gloom" by Ann McCann 16 X 20 Oil
I am working on creating a painting of the houses on my street in the early evening when the light is fading. There is a lot of architecture in this scene and there is more work to be done. There is also more color in the lawn than you see here, purples, etc.. But, I think I am close. These are lovely old homes.
"Bluebonnets on Willow City Loop" by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Plein Air Oil
This is a plein air painting I did standing above a bluebonnet field near Fredericksburg, Texas. The private road that meanders through these fields of grazing cattle and bluebonnets is called the Willow City Loop. This is the prettiest site on the road. We were told by a local rancher not to wander into the field due to rattlesnakes hiding under the flowers!
"Lavender Valley" 18 X 24 inch oil (c)Ann McCann 2018
"Lavender Valley" (Provence) by Ann McCann 18 X 24 Oil
This is a field of lavender and sunflowers were we painted in Provence. This is the first large studio painting I have done of this scene. I wish you could smell the perfume and hear the bees buzzing. What a wonderful day, plein air painting in this very spot.
Roman Bridge in Spain (Granada) 9 X 12 Oil (c)Ann McCann 2018
Roman Bridge in Spain (Toledo) by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Oil
I have pretty much sold all my plein air paintings from Spain. They were a hit at my show here at the dental school last fall. This one is still in my inventory. This is an overlook in the ancient city of Toledo with a real Roman bridge in the distance. It is still in use! The building on the top of the cliff is an old monastery.
"Cape Roses" 20 X 24 Oil (c) Ann McCann 2018
"Cape Roses" by Ann McCann 20 X 24 Oil
This was the view out my front window when we stayed in Wellfleet, MA last summer. I did several watercolors of the roses, and this is my first oil painting. I am very happy with my knife roses!
"Adobe Moon Grande" 16 X 20 Oil (c) Ann McCann 2018
"Adobe Moon Grande" by Ann McCann 16 X 20 Oil
I did a small painting of this Santa Fe scene and decided to go bigger for my show. There was a super moon that night so it was pretty big at dusk. This scene has almost every Santa Fe feature- chamisa, juniper, adobe and mountains!
"Hibiscus Duo Grande" 16 X 20 Oil (c) Ann McCann 2018
Hibiscus Duo Grande by Ann McCann 16 X 20 Oil
I am getting ready for a show at the UT Southwestern Medical School Faculty Club in March. So, I am concentrating on creating larger paintings for the show. I did a small 5X7 of this image a while ago and decided to go big with it. My hairdresser supplied the flowers!
