Lilacs smell like spring in Michigan. I really miss them here in Texas. So I just have to look at the painting and imagine the wonderful purple perfume.

"Chamisa Fantasy" 11 X 14 Oil (c)Ann McCann 2018
I continue to be fascinated by the golden chamisa bushes in Santa Fe. So, I decided to abstract them and treat them as colorful flowers. Although they are dried golden bushes in December, I hope to actually see them in flower someday!
This is the last week of my show at the Baylor Health Sciences Library in Dallas. All paintings (not frames) are 20% off. Contact me if you would like a personal tour of the exhibit!
"Not So Docile Daylilies" 20 X 20 Oil ©Ann McCann 2018
My inspiration for this painting was some watercolor sketches I did at Cape Cod last summer. I decided to paint it with bright yellows and oranges on a dark purple background. A collector bought it soon after my posting last week. She made my day. I'm thrilled that it is now on display at the Texas A&M College of Dentistry.
"Electric Gerbera Daisies" 20 X 20 Oil (c) Ann McCann
I did a small painting of these daisies that I had for the party after my October art show I decided to go big with it. These complementary and clashy colors jump off the canvas!
Chamisa Shadows 9 X 12 Oil (c) Ann McCann 2018
Here is another painting of the yellow chamisa in Santa Fe. In this one I focused on the beautiful shadows they created in the bright sunshine. Then there are the ever present mountains in the background.
"Adobe Moon" 9 X 12 Oil (c) Ann McCann 2018
We went to Santa Fe over the Christmas break and visited a park in the foothills. I have always wanted to paint the moon as seen during the day, and this was my opportunity. I also like the dried golden chamisa plants that are everywhere. The adobe house in the background was a bonus.
These daylilies were everywhere in Cape Cod last July. They are the essence of summer, bright and cheerful. I pumped up the background color quite a bit so it jumps off the wall.
Please read my interview at the Artists of Texas website: http://www.artistsoftexas.org/texas-art-blog/. You will have to page down as my interview is not the first one, but is currently the second one (maybe the third by now). I did a little soul searching to answer the questions!
"My Favorite Chair" 9 X 12 Oil (c)Ann McCann 2017
This is a warm memory of a very hot day in Salado last spring. We had some good times with good friends down by the river behind our lodging. I'm glad it was purchased by a native Texas and neighbor! This painting is currently on display at my show at the Baylor Health Sciences Library in Dallas.
I hope everyone has a nice holiday with time for family and friends.
I donated a house portrait to our neighborhood silent auction. The couple who bought it have a lovely old bungalow. Here is the portrait I created for them in watercolor and ink. The pink on the driveway has some sparkle in it!
Here is a happy customer who bought one of my hibiscus paintings. She wore a matching shirt for the photograph. Paintings make a wonderful gift. See my work at annmccann.net or email me at alouisemccann@gmail.com.
