I am painting a large oil of a view of the Rio Grande in Big Bend. Here is my preliminary work. The first is a watercolor and ink sketch I did onsite plein air. The second is a larger watercolor I did at home. On Wednesday, I will show you the finished oil painting.
When we stayed in Tuscany, this was our view of Pienza from the villa. Can you imagine how wonderful it would be to have this view of a golden medieval town every morning while you drink your coffee! I can't imagine ever getting tired of it.
This is a plein air painting I did over the Christmas break while visiting Big Bend Park. We stayed in a house on a mountainside in Terlingua, Texas. The views from the porch were spectacular. We saw many road runners and javelinas in this desert landscape. Only in Texas!.
My Dallas neighbors commissioned me to do a watercolor of their house. It was a challenge, because the two large trees on either side of the front yard completely obscured the facade of the house. I had to use an old photograph of their house before the trees grew in to complete the painting! They asked me to paint "bricks and mortar," so I studied the brick patterns too. Here is the result.............................
I painted this in response to the request from the Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas for paintings "like the Masters." I have always admired this colorful version of Monet's oft repeated scene with the red background. This is currently available at the Dutch Art Gallery (Dallas) for purchase. I also have a smaller study (9 X 12) that I did for this work which is available for purchase at www.annmccann.net.
My friend Ken Lampton is using my watercolor sketch of my house for his 2017 calendar!
This must be the most beautiful place in Texas! We visited the bluebonnet fields outside of Fredericksburg last spring and painted on this site. Carloads of people were driving by and providing comments on our paintings. I can't wait to go next spring.

I photographed these poppies at the Wild Seed Farm in Fredericksburg last April. There were several fields of gorgeous red poppies as well as blue bonnets. Tourists arrived there by the busload. I bought some seeds to start my own!

Something wonderful must have happened here on Great Island Beach in Wellfleet, MA. A customer searched for Great Island Beach paintings and found mine. What a treat for me. This is a beach my family visits every summer in Cape Cod, and I love to paint it.

This is a flower garden at the Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain. I could live with this view everyday!
(c)Ann McCann 2016, Queen Anne's Lace, Oil on Linen Panel, 12 X 16
I posted this a while ago and got a lot of nice comments. So, I decided to post it again. I was sitting in a meadow and saw this view of the harbor in Orleans, MA (Cape Cod). It was the view as seen by the Queen Anne's Lace.
This is for sale at annmccann.net.
The opening for this show is on Saturday, Nov 5. Above are the two paintings I have on exhibit.
I will be there at 2:00 for the Awards Show. I hope to see you there.
