Here is a trio of paintings from the dunes near Provincetown, MA. They capture the beautiful light that is found in Cape Cod. The light bounces off the water and sand and the air sparkles. That is why so many painters have gravitated there over the last century. With this trio you could be at the beach all year round!

Sunset Race by Ann McCann 11 X 14 Oil
The sail boats are racing on White Rock Lake in Dallas at sunset when the wind picks up. This was a plein air painting that I finished in my studio.

Queen Anne's Lace by Ann McCann 12 X 16 Oil
I was sitting in a grassy field above the harbor in Orleans, MA (Cape Cod) and saw this view. It's the view of the flowers and I liked it better than mine.

Sky at Horsebarn Hill with Cattle by Ann McCann 6 X 12 Oil
In August we visit my Mother-in-law in Storrs, CT. Nearby is Horsebarn Hill on the University of Connecticut campus. The clouds were gorgeous the day we visited and were the perfect backdrop for the distant mountains and the cattle roaming the pasture.

"Colonial Sunflowers" by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Oil
Every August we have a large family get-together in Cape Cod, MA. This is a typical scene in Wellfleet where we stay, beautiful colonial houses and lovely flowers. These are sunflowers in the New England style (not Texan, smaller).

"Sunshine on a Cloudy Day" by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Oil
I painted this on a cloudy day last fall. The Texas sunflowers really lit up the room. There is something so nostalgic about sunflowers. They remind us of mothers, grandmothers, etc. The paint is nice and thick.

2016 Vickery Place Home Tour House #1 by Ann McCann 5 X 7 Watercolor
I have been painting a series of houses for the 2016 Vickery Place Home Tour, ink and water color. Here is the first one that has already been used for promotional purposes. They were fun to create, quite a drawing challenge, with rulers and T-square. I hope the owners enjoy them.
(c)Ann McCann, Aspen Shadows on Snow, Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas, 20 X 20"
Aspen Shadows on Snow by Ann McCann 20 X 20 Oil
It is still 100 degrees here in Texas so I decided to feature another snow painting. I loved working with all the beautiful blues and purples on the "white" snow. Actually the snow is yellow, pink, orange, blue, purple........................... This one hangs in my breakfast room!
Not So White Rose by Ann McCann 6 X 6 Oil
I created this in a 30 day painting challenge where I painted a rose every day. This is one of my favorites, a white rose. White light is actually a rainbow of colors and so is my rose, glowing in the center.
(c)Ann McCann, "Snowy Afternoon in the Woods," Oil on gallery wrap canvas, 16 X 20"
Snowy Afternoon in the Woods by Ann McCann 16 X 20" Oil
It's 100+ degrees in Texas right now and walking along this snowy path looks pretty good. I created an "aurora borealis" look to the interior of the forest, moving mysterious colors. The paint is nice and thick. This is for sale on my website, as well as a smaller version that I painted first.
(c)Ann McCann, "Blue Iris Ladder," Oil on gallery wrap canvas, 12 X 12"
Blue Iris Ladder by Ann McCann 12 X 12 Oil
I created this painting for the 2016 Spring Show at the Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas. These irises were blooming in my neighborhood on a very sunny day. I thickly painted them with a knife using complementary colors that pop. This is for sale on my website.
(c)Ann McCann, "Notre Dame in Blue and Orange," 9 X 12 Oil on archival linen panel
New Travel Section: "Notre Dame in Blue and Orange" by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Oil
I have added a new travel section in my "Available Paintings" where this painting resides. We visited Paris a few years ago where I painted the Notre Dame cathedral. We sat on a bench on the Seine and looked back at the cathedral. It was the stained glass windows that caught my eye, and so I painted the cathedral with the same colors.
(c)Ann McCann, "Civil War Quince," 16 X 20" Oil, 2016
"Civil War Quince" by Ann McCann 16 X 20 Oil
These flaming red-orange quince bushes reside in a very old cemetery in Dallas. Hidden away in the oldest part of the city, the cemetery is only "lightly" groomed and is beautiful in the spring with quince, lilacs and iris. There really are Civil War era graves including a Northern Yankee section. I was enchanted by the place.
(c)Ann McCann, "White House," 8 X 11 water color on paper
"White House" by Ann McCann 8 X 11 Water Color
I have been commissioned to paint five houses for a local home tour. Here is another water color I shared with the home tour group. I painted it on our annual family vacation in Wellfleet, Cape Cod. This is a lovely old Victorian home with a distinctive mansard roof. The hydrangeas blooming out front were gorgeous. This was painted plein air, and so the lines are free form (not so straight!). My chair was half on the street to get the right view. Fortunately, there was little traffic on this back road!
I added the photo below from Tuesday as the link from Facebook didnt work!
