"Lady Banks Blooming" by Ann McCann 16 X 20" Oil
My yellow Lady Banks rose is blooming. I trained it up the pecan tree in the backyard. Last year's blooms were not very special, but this season looks like it will really be showy. Time to paint it again!
"Gathering Gloom" by Ann McCann 16 X 20 Oil
I am working on creating a painting of the houses on my street in the early evening when the light is fading. There is a lot of architecture in this scene and there is more work to be done. There is also more color in the lawn than you see here, purples, etc.. But, I think I am close. These are lovely old homes.
"Bluebonnets on Willow City Loop" by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Plein Air Oil
This is a plein air painting I did standing above a bluebonnet field near Fredericksburg, Texas. The private road that meanders through these fields of grazing cattle and bluebonnets is called the Willow City Loop. This is the prettiest site on the road. We were told by a local rancher not to wander into the field due to rattlesnakes hiding under the flowers!
"Lavender Valley" (Provence) by Ann McCann 18 X 24 Oil
This is a field of lavender and sunflowers were we painted in Provence. This is the first large studio painting I have done of this scene. I wish you could smell the perfume and hear the bees buzzing. What a wonderful day, plein air painting in this very spot.
Roman Bridge in Spain (Toledo) by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Oil
I have pretty much sold all my plein air paintings from Spain. They were a hit at my show here at the dental school last fall. This one is still in my inventory. This is an overlook in the ancient city of Toledo with a real Roman bridge in the distance. It is still in use! The building on the top of the cliff is an old monastery.
"Cape Roses" by Ann McCann 20 X 24 Oil
This was the view out my front window when we stayed in Wellfleet, MA last summer. I did several watercolors of the roses, and this is my first oil painting. I am very happy with my knife roses!
"Adobe Moon Grande" by Ann McCann 16 X 20 Oil
I did a small painting of this Santa Fe scene and decided to go bigger for my show. There was a super moon that night so it was pretty big at dusk. This scene has almost every Santa Fe feature- chamisa, juniper, adobe and mountains!
Hibiscus Duo Grande by Ann McCann 16 X 20 Oil
I am getting ready for a show at the UT Southwestern Medical School Faculty Club in March. So, I am concentrating on creating larger paintings for the show. I did a small 5X7 of this image a while ago and decided to go big with it. My hairdresser supplied the flowers!
SOLD Alhambra Rose Garden by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Oil
This is the amazing rose garden at the Alhambra in Granada, Spain. You can see some of the palace in the background and the orange trees in the garden. The roses there were as a big as dinner plates.
Fall at Echo Lake by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Oil
We visited this lake last fall in Connecticut. The fall colors were gorgeous reflecting in the lake. at twilight. It almost looked like a forest fire!
SOLD- "White Flower Canyon" by Ann McCann 20 X 24 Oil
I will miss this one and the memories that go with it. Our family had a wonderful trip to Big Bend in December 2017. My daughter came home from overseas to go with us. I love the white flowers (whatever they are!) and the rose/blue cliffs. I know the new owner will enjoy it too.
"Smell the Lilacs" by Ann McCann 12 X 12 Oil
Lilacs smell like spring in Michigan. I really miss them here in Texas. So I just have to look at the painting and imagine the wonderful purple perfume.
"Chamisa Fantasy" by Ann McCann 11 X 14 Oil
I continue to be fascinated by the golden chamisa bushes in Santa Fe. So, I decided to abstract them and treat them as colorful flowers. Although they are dried golden bushes in December, I hope to actually see them in flower someday!
