I created this painting for the 2016 Spring Show at the Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas. These irises were blooming in my neighborhood on a very sunny day. I thickly painted them with a knife using complementary colors that pop. This is for sale on my website.
New Travel Section: "Notre Dame in Blue and Orange" by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Oil
I have added a new travel section in my "Available Paintings" where this painting resides. We visited Paris a few years ago where I painted the Notre Dame cathedral. We sat on a bench on the Seine and looked back at the cathedral. It was the stained glass windows that caught my eye, and so I painted the cathedral with the same colors.
"Civil War Quince" by Ann McCann 16 X 20 Oil
These flaming red-orange quince bushes reside in a very old cemetery in Dallas. Hidden away in the oldest part of the city, the cemetery is only "lightly" groomed and is beautiful in the spring with quince, lilacs and iris. There really are Civil War era graves including a Northern Yankee section. I was enchanted by the place.
"White House" by Ann McCann 8 X 11 Water Color
I have been commissioned to paint five houses for a local home tour. Here is another water color I shared with the home tour group. I painted it on our annual family vacation in Wellfleet, Cape Cod. This is a lovely old Victorian home with a distinctive mansard roof. The hydrangeas blooming out front were gorgeous. This was painted plein air, and so the lines are free form (not so straight!). My chair was half on the street to get the right view. Fortunately, there was little traffic on this back road!
I added the photo below from Tuesday as the link from Facebook didnt work!
"My House" by Ann McCann 5 X 7 Water Color
I have been commissioned to paint 5 houses for a local home tour. I first did this one of my house with ink and water color to show them what I could create. My home is from the 1920s, and I tried to capture some of the quirkiness of it in this painting.
Cone Flowers are Back! by Ann McCann 20 X 20 Oil
Every year my hot pink cone flowers take over more of my flower beds. They are spectacular when all are in bloom. I just let them have their way. Usually there are several butterflies on them. Notice the small one on the close up below.
"Quince in the Hood" by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Oil
Flaming red-orange quince bushes are the very earliest sign of spring in Dallas. There are not very many of them, probably too old fashioned. I am lucky to have a beautiful one on my street, in front of a lovely arts and crafts house.
Ann McCann's Show at North Haven Gardens Gallery Until July 10, 2016
I have 14 paintings at the North Haven Gardens Gallery right now until July 10. The "Iris in the Hood" painting above is one of them. There are other artists exhibiting as well. It is a lovely space to visit and then you can buy some flowers for your yard!
Don Quixote Windmills by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Oil
Ann McCann at the Dutch Art Gallery Spring Show through July 16, 2016
Here are 3 of my paintings currently exhibited at the Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, 10233 Northwest Hwy, #420.
These are some of my best, and there are a lot of other beautiful paintings as well. Please stop by and see them! Let me know if you go..............................
Oranges & Roses by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Oil
This is a painting of the rose garden at the Alhambra in Granada, Spain. It was a lovely spot, and we set up in a far corner to be out of the way. However, the security guards kicked us out and said we needed "permission" to paint. We assumed that would involve a lengthy process we couldn't achieve that day. So, I took lots of photos and finished this at home. The roses there were the biggest I have ever seen!
Spanish Lagoon Bridge (at Plaza de Espana, Seville) by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Oil
This bridge is one of a series over a lagoon in the Plaza de Espana in Seville. I think they were going for a Venice look. You could even row a boat through the canal. We had great fun painting on the plaza with ALL the tourists and locals selling souvenirs.
Toledo Overlook by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Oil
Toledo was the first city we visited in Spain last month. This view of the Roman bridge and the orange villa (a convent) at the top of the mountain was a stone's throw from our hotel, the El Greco Painter Hotel. And yes, we were across the street from the El Greco Museum. It was a beautiful morning in this medieval city. Click on the right image to see the photo of the site.
"Gothic Sky" by Ann McCann 9 X 12 Oil
This is a plein air painting I did last week which features the skyline of the Cathedral of Seville, the 3rd largest gothic building in Europe. I wanted to capture the mystery of it against the glowing sky. I also want to portray how spiky these gothic buildings are! They are all points and scary gargoyles.
